October is synonymous with time change

This post is also available in: French

As every year, we like to inform you of the time change.
In France the change to winter time will take place on Sunday, October 27, 2012 at 3 am.
60 minutes will be removed from legal time. It will then be 2 am.

So even if this change should not impact your platform (with the 2.4.4 version of Centreon and the latest versions of Broker and Engine), those using a previous version to 3.2.3 version of Nagios should remain vigilant.

For those who are using Nagios prior to version 3.2.3
If you are using a version prior to 3.2.3 Nagios, this change could affect your monitoring platform.
In order to anticipate a possible interuption of your monitoring during this long weekend we recommend you to update your server with the 3.2.3 version Nagios.
We advise you not to use versions 3.4.x of Nagios because of stability problems.
If however this is not possible, we encourage you to schedule the shutdown (for example, with cron) of your monitoring shortly before the time change (2:59) and restart an hour later (still with cron) .

Although this method will make the monitoring unavailable for a short period of time, it will probably save you from the crash your server, and therefore the total unavailability of monitoring platform during this long weekend!
If despite these precautions, your servers fall, a restart of each Nagios server will allow you to get back your monitoring plateform.

  1. Hey,

    Thanks for this information.

A question about the Nagios version 3.4.x. I have installed a new Nagios satellite with Debian wheezy, and this one come with Nagios 3.4.1. What kind of stability problem can I encounter?

Thanks in advance for your response. :)

    • Hi,

This is some answers to justify the downgrade of Nagios.
      – Nagios 3.3.1 has bugs with datas performance and your graphs could be broken.
      – Nagios 3.4.1 has bug with memory managment and can crash in certain cases.
      – Nagios 3.4 has bug with downtime / timeperiod management http://tracker.nagios.org/view.php?id=338

For the following versions, we have no experience in the recent versions.
So as a precaution, we do not advise customers to install these versions.
